CT Memories

We all have many special memories of our lives in Connecticut. We are hoping that you will share them with us.

"Let me tell you about the time…" Sound familiar? We all have stories that have been passed down to us from parents and grandparents or that we share with our children. These memories are part of family lore – the endearing tie that binds families from one generation to the next. We share them so that the memory of that moment will endure. In honor of our 375th Anniversary, I invite you to share your special memories of Connecticut, as I have shared mine. They will be part of the lore and legend of this great state. Thank you for being a part of this wonderful celebration.

“That’s why we like you – you’re normal, you’re like us!”
by M. Jodi Rell

Some of my fondest memories of the State of Connecticut have come during my 25 years in public service, having the honor of meeting and getting to know the citizens of this great state. I am humbled by the memories of my first days in office as Governor in July 2004 when I held nearly 20 ‘open houses’ over the summer in every corner of this state so that Connecticut residents could meet their new Governor.

I met thousands of Connecticut residents at those open houses. At one stop during this memorable meet and greet tour, after standing for hours, I finally kicked off my heels and stood in my stocking feet greeting people.  I will never forget the woman who said, while looking at my feet, “That’s why we like you – you’re normal; you’re like us.”  Her unexpected but welcomed comment was the highest compliments she could have given me.  Frankly, it set the tone for my Administration.

The warm reception and kind words I received at these open houses from citizens of all ages from across the state is just one of the many, many fond memories I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Thank you, Connecticut!
